THERMAL TAPE COVERS: are similar to thermal tape. Heat is applied to the adhesive-coated spine of a cover. Heat activates the adhesive, allowing the pages to be bound to the wraparound cover. These systems have openings up to a two inches, and can bind more than one document at a time depending on the thickness. Binding time is approximately 30 seconds.
Channel Binding is a simple mechanical binding system that uses a metal U-channel built into a one piece cover. Among the benefits of this technology is that no punching or gluing is required. The document is reasonably secure, and many systems allow limited de-binding for editing documents
PLASTIC COIL BINDING
BENEFITS: Neat, clean, durable, strong yet flexible and light weight. The fastest growing segment of the mechanical binding industry, driven by consumer demand. Additional
benefts are:
Easy-to use.
Pages won't pull apart.
Coils don't distort, crack, chip or have sharp edges to scratch or snag.
Great for documents that will be sent through the mail.
Available in a wide range of colors.
Bound books lay flat when opened.
Will fold back a full 360 degrees.
HOW IT WORKS: Plastic coils are a continuous spiral that spins into the documents through punched oval or round holes. Once inserted, the ends are cut and crimped to prevent the coil from "twisting" out of the book. Machines punch the holes and the coils can be inserted by hand or with a machine. The cutting and crimping is accomplished either with a special pair of pliers or another machine.
THERMAL TAPE BINDING: Tape binding uses various size tape strips to bind pages and a covers
together, this is done in a system that applies the
strip to the document while being heated leaving the
users' hands free to prepare for the next document, typically a user can produce between 2 and 4 documents per minute.
TWIN LOOP WIRE BINDING
HOW IT WORKS: Wire is available in two patterns - 2 loops (2:1 pitch) per inch or 3 loops (3:1 pitch) per inch. The number of holes in the documents must match the wire pattern. The wire comes "open" so that the punched pages can be inserted into the loops. After all of the pages are in place the book is inserted into a closing machine where a closing bar either electronically or manually closes the wire to a predetermined diameter, making a round, sealed bind.
VELOBIND Punching machines punch 4 to 1 small holes in the paper. The paper is laid over a female strip and a male strip is inserted through the paper and receptor strip. On the hot knife machines the excess strip is cut off and the book is sealed. Other strips just fold over and are less secure.
PLASTIC COMB BINDING
HOW IT WORKS: Rectangular holes are punched in the paper sheets and covers to be bound. The binding elements or combs are typically 11" long plastic spines composed of a solid area on the back and 19 ring "fingers" (or teeth) spaced 9/16" on center. The combs are held in place and spread open by the binding macine. The punched holes in
the sheets and covers are hooked onto the open binding comb. The comb is then closed in the machine and the bind is complete. Shorter lengths of binding combs can be purchased pre-cut, or they
can be hand cut.
RING BINDERS
A WIDE RANGE OF RING BINDERS: BindRite dealers offer a huge selection of stock Ring Binders in a variety of materials, size formats and styles. Options include paddeded covers, label holders, literature or business card pockets and custom die-cut window
